Yuuta: "How about this? We'll make you a den instead of a doghouse!"

Yuuta orders Shadowmaru to get out of the way, but Shadowmaru stays put, retorting that Yuuta isn't his boss.

Shadowmaru kids Kagero, but Kagero attacks with his sickle and sends him flying. Power Joe rams Kagero with his shovel, while Yuuta tells J-Decker to use his J-Buster. As J-Decker takes aim, he recalls Kagero's story, and his similar experience with Yuuta.

Kagero:		Our days spent together testing, sparring... All my memories since I was made...
		All that will be gone.

Deckerd:	Once I am fed new data, all I know about you (Yuuta) will be erased.

Deckerd couldn't shoot.

Kagero transforms into some bird and takes off, only to be shot down by McCrane. He transforms into a car and slips into a stairway leading underground. The Brave Police decide to follow, but Shadowmaru transforms and beats them to it.

Deckerd apologizes to Yuuta for disobeying orders. He goes on to say, Kagero must have felt the same way he did. Yuuta chastises him, telling to be brave.

Shadowmaru corners Kagero and asks him why he broke his promise. Kagero points his cannon at Shadowmaru. Shadowmaru is taken aback. Kagero shoots upwards instead, breaking the ground J-Decker was standing on, then shoots at J-Decker. He then takes aim at Yuuta, but Shadowmaru comes out and knocks the cannon out of his hand. Shadowmaru tells Kagero to stop, and gets whacked with a post instead. Kagero lunges at him as he sits against some steelworks. Shadowmaru pulls out his dagger in time, stabbing Kagero. Kagero falls on Shadowmaru's shoulder. Shadowmaru lay there, in utter disbelief at such a senseless end.

Shinjo received news that the Brave Police have killed Kagero. He repeats his belief that robots do not need personalities. He narrates that Kagero now lives on as the brains of his newly-built warship, the Abyss.

Meanwhile, Mr. Toudou finds that Kagero's A.I. chip was replaced with one programmed for destruction, as he suspected. Shadowmaru begins to blame himself. Mr. Toudou points out that the problem is who stole the chip. Shadowmaru doesn't listen and he dashes off. Mr. Toudou assures Deckerd that he'll be back, for fuel. True enough, Shadowmaru in dog form drags himself on the streets as he runs out of gas.

Mr. Azuma tries to trace Ken Shinjo's whereabouts and heads to a colleague's office to inquire. He reminisces his school days with the sickly Shinjo, recalling how Shinjo wanted to copy his brains onto an A.I. and posses a mechanical body.

At home, Azuki bathes the cat. The cat jumps out of the window. Azuki goes out of the house in a towel to chase him and finds Shadowmaru at her doorstep. She hears his gas tank growling, and guesses that he needs fuel.

At the headquarters, officers hotly debate on the sentient robots and the Brave Police project. Mr. Azuma keeps silent, looking at a slip of paper containing Ken Shinjo's contact information until the end of the meeting and pondering.

Colleague:	That's where Shinjo is.
		But Azuma, whatever he does, we can't interfere.
Azuma:		What?
Colleague:	This is a government agreement.
		He's out of the police's reach.

The commissioner arrives, and apologizes for all the inconvenience his pet project is causing, but expresses that he has no regrets. Mr. Azuma brings up Ken Shinjo, and asks him to stop that man.

Back at the Tomonaga home, Azuki offers Shadowmaru Deckerd's fuel in a kiddie pool. Shadowmaru grieves his loss and goes emo:

Azuki:		Not drinking yet?
		Don't worry, that's good stuff. Deckerd's fuel.
Shadowmaru:	Just coffee for me.
Azuki:		You'll get sick.
Shadowmaru:	Might as well break down and die, if I am to suffer this much.
Azuki:		So that's how close you are...
Shadowmaru:	If I were just a machine, I wouldn't be worrying about Kagero.
		Even our fight brings back memories.
		I hate how I was created this way.
Azuki:		But I think it's wonderful.
Shadowmaru:	How...!?
Azuki:		See, you're concerned about your friends, you feel sad...
		Because you're not just a talking robot, right?
		If your friend is down, and you can't even feel for him, wouldn't that be worse?
		But because you have a heart, you'll never forget your friends.
		Don't you think that's a wonderful thing?

Yuuta arrives with news that they found the one who stole the chip. Shadowmaru springs into action, and disappears. He starts using his hacking abilities and tracks down Mr. Shinjo.

While Yuuta was meeting with the team, the commissioner warns about the risks of fouling up this case. The Abyss leaves port. It sheds off its civilian ship disguise and submerges. The ship's crew are amazed at how everything is automated on the ship. Shinjo gloats that it's because it's his brain running the ship. Shadowmaru sneaks in the ship to take Kagero back. The ship's security system does not recognize Shadowmaru and promptly shackles him. Ken Shinjo arrives and asks for a search warrant. He then proceeds to explain his intentions for Kagero's chip. He adds that he copied his fighting abilities to his Abyss guards.

Before Shadowmaru gets into trouble, J-Decker's team arrives and announces a takeover of the ship. The Abyss fires back and the team struggles to dodge and maneuver. J-Decker notes that if they split up to catch up with the Abyss' speed, their defenses would weaken. Shadowmaru tells everyone he'll destroy the ships computer. His ninja stars bounce off the Abyss guards' shields. He then changes into his tank mode, and hits the two guards.

Ken Shinjo:	What the...! That tank form wasn't in the design!
Shadowmaru:	Thanks to Kagero's testing, I found that I need to boost my attack capabilities.
		Kagero gave me this form, Shadowmaru Tank!
Ken Shinjo:	Oh really? Kagero did?
		Well then, look at him now.
Abyss Guard:	Shadowmaru... It's me, Kagero. I was copied here.
Shadowmaru:	Kagero!
Ken Shinjo:	That's right.
		Your memories and thoughts are mere data which can be copied and deleted.
		What  now? His data is right there.
Shadowmaru:	Kagero is already dead.
		I myself killed him!

Shadowmaru blows up the guards, and the ship's computer begins to panic. The crew abandon ship, while Shinjo commands the computer, Kagero Shinjo, to fight back. To Shinjo's surprise, the computer refuses, saying that he does not want his body destroyed. The computer steers the ship into the depths of the sea.

Kagero Shinjo:	I don't want to fight.
		It's painful, it's torture... I'm out of here!
Ken Shinjo:	What happened? \N I thought that was a perfect copy of my brain...
		Why does he refuse to obey me!
Shadowmaru:	Mr. Shinjo, take one hard look.
		That's you right there.
Ken Shinjo:	What?
Shadowmaru:	You are an overconfident coward who has his way with everybody.
		You made your very own shadow!

Yuuta and J-Decker tell Shadowmaru to leave the ship, but Shadowmaru sits it out. He would rather die with Kagero. A gate opens up behind Shadowmaru, and the computer orders all crew into the escape capsule. The computer now calls Shadowmaru by name, and tells him to escape. Shadowmaru leaves, while the ship goes deeper until it finally explodes.

Back at the headquarters, police handcuff Ken Shinjo and lead him away. Mr. Azuma and the Commissioner worry that the Super A.I. technology has leaked out and may land in the black market. Deckerd announces Shadowmaru formal entry into the Brave Police. The team joke around with Shadowmaru and get a good laugh out of his dog form.
